New releases – Little Red Riding Hood & HON: Battlegrounds

Today we’re releasing two very different games into our family: the fifth volume of our Tales & Games collection Little Red Riding Hood and the next expansion to Heroes of Normandie, Battleground Terrain Pack.

LittleRedRidingHood_3Dbox

Little Red Riding Hood is the fifth volume in the Tales and Games series by Purple Brain Creations. This game follows the plot of the tale as Little Red attempts to follow the path to her grandmother’s house. Unbeknownst to her, the big bag wolf is close on her tale! Players can work together to help Little Red along, or one player can play as the wolf and against the others. In either case, players will draw cards and push their luck to move forward (or backward!) along the path. First player to reach grandmother’s house wins! Watch The Dice Tower review here, or watch us go over gameplay in this video.

Expand your battles with six new double-sided terrain tiles! These include new terrain types and varied amounts of previous terrain types. Slog through the heavily wooded forest or scurry around the open wheat fields. You’ll also have new targeting rules and short walls for increased tactical decisions. These tiles are perfect for creating your own scenarios! Check out Devil Pig’s page to see all six tiles up close here!

New Release – Dungeon Fighter: Rock and Roll

Today marks the release the fourth and final expansion to Dungeon Fighter – Rock and Roll!

From the title, it’s probably no surprise to you that this expansion boasts earth, rock, and gem-themed contents. As with the other expansions, this one comes with a new hero, Tucker Blackfoot, and a new dungeon sheet (no healing springs to be seen!). Two new bosses are also introduced – Gaea, with variable strengths and weaknesses, and The Shopkeeper, who is only beatable with the combined forces of the other three expansions. You’ll also see new monsters of the fossilized, dusty, and rocky type, as well as new equipment and die with which to battle them!Get ready to Rock and Roll!

The new Power cards in this expansion give you the power to manipulate the various templates and tokens that are included. There are Slow tokens, which fit into the holes on the target board, and give you more chances to deal damage; the Armor template reduces damage dealt by 1 until it is hit; the Weak Point template deals 7 damage if hit, and immediately KO’s the monster if the die is activated; and finally, the Philosopher’s Stone template deals 2 damage and rewards the Heroes 3 gold each time it is hit.

There are also new obstacles that affect your die rolls – the Gate and the Stone Wall. You’ll see these when battling specific monsters, or when attempting to use some of the new equipment you found. Either roll under the gate, or burst through the wall to deal damage!

New King of Tokyo Monster: The Draccus

Worldbuilders and IELLO are proud to introduce the newest King of Tokyo Monster: The Draccus, from Patrick Rothfuss’s Kingkiller Chronicles! Visit the Worldbuilders booth (#663) at GenCon 2015 to grab a new monster for the rompin’-est, stompin’-est game this side of our favorite giant monster movies!

IELLO’s multi-award-winning King of Tokyo, designed by Richard Garfield (designer of Magic: the Gathering), lets you and your friends vie to be the last monster in Tokyo by collecting power, glory, and genetic modifications while attacking each other and flattening the city. Strategy and luck are your best friends and worst enemies in this family-friendly game that’s won the hearts of both casual and hardcore gamers in the past four years.

Since the game’s debut, IELLO has released expansion packs and a monster movie sequel, King of New York. The folks at IELLO are also big fans of New York Times bestselling author Patrick Rothfuss, and were tickled to find out that Pat loved playing King of Tokyo. They hung out a bit during Gen Con 2013, and a plan was hatched to bring the coal-chomping, resin-addicted Draccus out of his novel The Name of the Wind and into Tokyo Bay.  IELLO couldn’t wait to share their love for Rothfuss’s books with the boardgame community, and vice-versa.

The new Draccus monster was designed by King of New York artist Régis Torres, and is fully playable in the original King of Tokyo game as well as King of New York. It will debut at Gen Con 2015, and will be available at the Worldbuilders booth for $20.00 during the con. Afterward, you’ll be able to grab one via Patrick Rothfuss’s online store, The Tinker’s Packs (www.thetinkerspacks.com), where all proceeds go to charity.

In Rothfuss’s book The Name of the Wind, the narrator, Kvothe, finds himself face-to-face with the Draccus, a very real beast on which the legends of dragons were based. Kvothe is shocked that not only does it actually exist, but he suddenly finds himself having to survive an encounter with one, and save an entire city from its drug-crazed rampage. Kvothe needs to use all his wits and tricks to come out alive, let alone triumphant.

As a bonus, 100% of the sales of the new Draccus card will go to support Rothfuss’s charity Worldbuilders, which has to date raised over $3.5 million for Heifer International to help end hunger and bring families and communities out of poverty. So you’ll be able to destroy Tokyo with a clear conscience! The Worldbuilders staff are also a bit crazy for tabletop and role-playing games, and one of their favorites is King of Tokyo (not even kidding: visit www.worldbuilders.org/news/jeff-is-king-of-tokyo for the latest saga). There may be fights over who gets to be the Draccus.

New releases – Welcome to the Dungeon & Guardians’ Chronicles expansions

Today we welcome four new games to the IELLO catalog: Welcome to the Dungeon and three Guardians’ Chronicles expansions!

WelcomeDungeon_3Dbox

Welcome to the Dungeon (2-4 Players, ages 8+, 30 min) is a mini dungeon crawler where all players choose one character to send into the deep, dark dungeon. On your turn you draw a card and either add it to the dungeon or place it face-down in front of you. However, if you do this, you must also choose a piece of armor from the character and place it on top of the face-down monster. As the game progresses, our beloved character will be faced with an ever-growing pile of monsters to face and an ever-decreasing amount of armor with which to face them! Will you purposely add dangerous monsters to the dungeon and take away equipment to foil everyone else’s chances? Or will you feed easily-beaten goblins into the dungeon in the hopes that you will emerge victorious? This game has won The Dice Tower seal of approval and has already logged countless preorders!  Watch a review by Game Boy Geek, Dan King, here or by Tom Vasel here to get a feel for the game!

GC_TerrorTrio_3Dbox

Guardians’ Chronicles: The Terror Trio (2-5 players, ages 14+, 120 min) is the first expansion to the game. Introduced to the Guardians’ Chronicles universe are Voltage, Nuke, and Iron Turtle. Voltage is a woman made of pure energy, making her extremely difficult to damage and allowing her to target all the characters on her tile! Nuke’s radioactive aura forces Heroes to use their Power cards, therefore completely dismantling their strategy. Iron Turtle’s great strength and power will allow him to stay on the board longer than any other villain, bringing destruction to everything around him. This gang of super villains and the additional tiles found in the expansion add more drama and challenge to the game.

GC_NightSquad_3Dbox

Guardians’ Chronicles: Night Squad (2-5 players, ages 14+, 120 min) is the second expansion to the base game that introduces four new heroes: Lieutenant Bigfoot, Armor, Night Vigilante, and Quickshot. Bigfoot and Armor are intimidating beasts of power, while you’ll want to be more careful with the Vigilante and Quickshot, who have more finesse but break more easily! This expansion also comes with two trap cards to add more interest to the game.

GC_TrueKingofAtlantis_3Dbox

Guardians’ Chronicles: True King of Atlantis (2-5 players, ages 14+, 120 min) is the third expansion to the game. The revolutIon is on! Under the oceans, the revolt is growing! Aquarion, son of the deposed dictator, is determined to regain his throne! Can you prevent the rein of a dictatorship? This expansion for Guardians’ Chronicles introduces a new threat to fight: Aquarion and his elite troops. The tiles included in this box allow you to ally Aquarion with Doktor Skarov, or to plunge into the depths of Atlantis.
