World of Yo-Ho app getting major updates!

World of Yo-Ho_3DBox

World of Yo-Ho, the pirate game in which your smart phone is your boat, is getting a significant update to the mobile app in October! The update will be completely free and players who already have the game will get to enjoy the new version as soon as the update is available.

Here’s a list of the changes to come:

  • Fixing bugs in how the app works.
  • Fixing typos in the text.
  • Improving the stability of in-game wi-fi connections.
  • New team modes: play in teams and share victory or defeat with your partner!
  • Abandoning missions will now cost 20 swag points. Choose your missions with care…
  • Instead of opening up the menu on launch, the app will now automatically try to reconnect when a player disconnects.
  • Many new treasures and artifacts.
  • 30 new missions (attacking monsters, discovering treasure, peaceful missions, and more!) to spice up your adventures.
  • New objects to use during battle to weaken your opponent or speed up your victory.
  • New rule for the Walrus: he has to rest every 5 turns, but visiting a Port counts as a rest.

There are more to come, but this is already very exciting news!

Recap of Origins Game Fair 2016

We’re finally settled back at home after our best Origins yet! The week we spent in Columbus, OH was a whirlwind of meetings, events, and playing new and old games. We miss it already!

We had two areas again this year: a booth in the Exhibit Hall with our store and a section of the Open Gaming Hall where we had our League. At our booth, you could frequently catch glimpses of a Kong visiting from New York. Doesn’t he look awesome in his IELLO tshirt? We also had quick demos of our most recent releases and a bunch of  the new version of King of Tokyo for sale.

In our Organized Play area, the IELLO League was constantly a hub of energy and gaming. This picture is from Wednesday, the calmest day. Note: the nicely aligned stacks of papers and buttons. That didn’t last long, but we had a great time with everyone who stopped by and played! Everyone who participated walked away with an armful of promos and a well-stamped player card as a souvenir!

hon nationals

We also hosted the Heroes of Normandie Nationals at Origins this year. Clem, one of the designers, was our guest and had signings scheduled on Saturday. We were happy to host the Nationals at Origins this year since the show started as a place for war gamers to gather! We taught Heroes to many people during the convention, and a few of them left the show with their very own copy of the game!

nominees

Three of our games were nominated for Origins Awards this year: Medieval Academy (Best Card Game), Welcome to the Dungeon (Best Card Game), and Me Want Cookies! (Best Family Game). They were up against worthy contestants, and while we didn’t come home with any trophies, we are honored for the nomination.

Sunday was the last day and while it was a long, busy show, the team still managed to keep smiles on their faces! Our awesome demo team helped with break down and everything was packed up for Gen Con before dinner time! We are already excited for next year and are brain storming ways to make our booths bigger and better for our fans!

If you weren’t able to make it to Origins, we hope to see you soon at Gen Con in August!

King of Tokyo 2016 Version

On the 5th anniversary of the release of the best-seller by Richard Garfield, King of Tokyo gets a facelift with a new version, entirely redone by a group of artists* lead by Régis Torres, who previously illustrated the Halloween expansion pack and King of New York.

In addition to these exclusive illustrations, this new version will have a new rulebook that was reworked to be clearer, as well as two new monsters: the ever-so-popular Space Penguin (the original version, highly sought-after by players, was only available through tournaments) and Cyber Kitty.

The King, Gigazaur, Meka Dragon, and Alienoid, still defending their territory, have also benefitted from a makeover. The changes are purely aesthetic changes: the rules of the game and Power cards remain unchanged.

These new illustrations will also be used the the digital version of the game, currently in the development stages, whose requirements were the main reason behind the makeover.

Initially published by IELLO in 2011, King of Tokyo has today been translated into 30 languages, and has sold over 750,000 copies worldwide!

This new version will be available on July 14 in English**, and by the end of the year in the 14 following languages: German, traditional Chinese, simplified Chinese, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish, and Swedish.

Along with the release of this new version, IELLO and TARGET are also offering a special edition in which Gigazaur is replaced by Baby Gigazaur. This monster will be exclusive to Target for 1 year, then will be available to the owners of the other versions of the game.

** release date in North America, pre-release date is June 30; the game will be available in other English-speaking regions in the following weeks.

Of course, we haven’t forgotten owners of the original edition, without whom the game’s success wouldn’t be possible. This new version will certainly inspire questions about compatibility and content, and we’ve tried to answer these questions so no one feels slighted.

Compatibility with the expansions

Unfortunately, we weren’t able to keep the same card backs on the Power cards (they hosted the old box cover, which is different in this new version). To make sure the original version is compatible with future expansions, or the existing cards (promos or cards in the Halloween expansion pack) with the new version, we’ll soon offer, at a reasonable price, card sleeves that fit the game’s theme.

The existing Evolution cards are completely compatible with the new version (by giving the new monsters the Evolutions of the monsters they replaced, or by using a dealing variant for the Evolutions – drafting or random distribution). A new version of Power Up! is already planned, with Evolutions for the new monsters, as well as Evolutions that let you use the King of Tokyo monsters in King of New York.

All the other contents, and notably the monsters, is and will remain entirely compatible between both versions and all expansions.

New and old monsters

We’re talking with our partners right now about the pertinence and possibility of offering Cyber Kitty and Space Penguin as a mini-expansion, so that owners of the original version can also enjoy them!

An additional monster that resembles Kraken will soon be available… Cyber Bunny is no longer available.

KONYPU

Soon:

Level up and cross the Pacific with the King of New York: Power Up! expansion for monsters in King of New York, compatible with King of Tokyo (old and new versions)! It will include a new contestant and 112 Evolution cards to make your monsters mutate in New York and in Tokyo!

New Preorder Release Date Policy

From now on, IELLO is promoting preorders for all new releases by shipping out preorders two weeks ahead of regular orders. We are not shipping any new releases to mass market or online retailers in order to give brick and mortar stores time to sell their product with no direct competition. This will also be combined with our promo promotions (see also: IELLO Announces ‘Happy Pigs’ Promotion) when possible.

SeaOfClouds_3DBox_smallCandyChaser_3DBox_smallKenjin_3Dbox_small

Shipments were delayed for our April releases (Sea of Clouds, Candy Chaser, and Kenjin), so the preorder street date is April 21 and the general street date is April 28.* There will be a 3-card promo pack for Sea of Clouds sent out with all preorders as well.

If you have any questions about this new policy, please send an email to info@iellogames.com.

* Normally street dates will be two weeks apart, but we shipped games from factories in China and Poland, and they arrived at different times.
