Heroes of Normandie Organized Play!

If you’ve ever played a game, you know it’s more fun with other people. That’s why hobby stores are so great. They bring people together who love games and connect them so they can play games together! That’s what Organized Play is all about. Over the last year, we have had a ton of requests to offer Organized Play for one of our most popular and extensive games, Heroes of Normandieheroes-of-normandie-d-day-200x200

The design studio for Heroes of Normandie, Devil Pig Games, has created a massive amount of great content that players can use to keep the game fresh and challenging every time they play. We’ve been working with them closely to develop a program that stores can use for larger groups to connect players who are passionate about Heroes of Normandie every week.

Whether you just want to learn how to play or you’ve already constructed a 500 point army tuned for tournaments, Organized Play will help you meet other fans and make sure you get a game in every week.

If you’re a Heroes of Normandie enthusiast, make sure you check out our store locator and encourage your local store to sign up for this new program.

If you’re a hobby store and you love supporting your community, check out our Organized Play page for everything you need to sign up and get started.

As always, if you have any questions, make sure to send them to organizedplay@iellogames.com

*This program is currently only available in North America. We’re always working on expanding our outreach. Check back soon for updates!

King of Tokyo/NY National Qualifier Invitations

king of the universe 2015 try 2

Hello everyone!

Time is going by fast, and we’re getting closer and closer to GenCon 2015! Just like last year, we will be hosting a King of Tokyo/King of New York National Qualifier Tournament during the convention. Since we now have King of New York in the mix, the tournament structure will be different from last year’s. The first few qualifying rounds will be played with King of Tokyo and then we will move on to King of New York for the final round before crowning an ultimate winner.

Everyone who won a KoT/KoNY tournament at their local store or convention will be invited to participate and will have the chance to be named the 2015 National King of the Universe Champion. If you have already won a tournament, CHECK HERE to make sure your name is on our list. If it’s not – contact your local game store and make sure they fill out their After Action Report! It’s how we keep track of our winners and their contact info.

If you haven’t won a tournament, but are excited about the chance to be invited, show your local game store this link and ask them to host a tournament! There’s still time!

Otherwise, we will contact all the winners a month before the event with additional, more precise information.

Of course, if you have any questions in the meantime, feel free to contact us at sara@iellogames.com or danni@iellogames.com for clarification and help!

Easter Eggs: Night of the Grand Octopus pt.1

Hi Everyone ! This is Danni from IELLO Customer Service!

I thought I’d introduce you all to some possibly unnoticed Easter Eggs in a few of our games. These were a surprise to even me, and I spend most of my day handling all the little pieces of the games!

The first game I’m featuring is Night of the Grand Octopus – a Lovecraftian-themed game where everyone is a cultist trying to successfully awaken the Grand Octopus.

We’ll start off sweet and simple. On the (English & French) box cover of the game, some may have noticed the loving homage to the Grand Octopus’s Mum on its chest.

I know, not very difficult, but hey! We’re still warming up our Easter Egg-finding skills.

The rest of this post will focus on the seventh Location boards and their fun hidden gems. The Location above is the Colony of the Moon Men, and among them you may recognize some familiar faces. In the center, there is a Teletubby waiting to be dissected, and, on the upper-left side, an Alien half-hidden behind a piller.

In the Agoba Marsh, there are more than a few Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back references. The name already should give you a hint; in French this tile is called le Marais d’Agoba. The reference doesn’t translate 100% into English, but some may still make the oral connection to Yoda’s home planet of Daghoba! The hut’s name on the sign reads Yogurt, which, for those of you have seen Spaceballs, should remind you of the Yoda parody played by Mel Brooks. In the water, there is very clearly some sort of monster (might it be the snake-like monster who ate R2D2?). You can also see the periscope of R2D2 poking out of the water on the right side. Finally, on the grass by the hut, there is a stack of rocks floating under the effect of the Force while Luke is in training.

In our last feature of the post, we explore the Lost City. You can very clearly see Nemo floating around the waters, and also the robot-camera from The Abyss. On the left side, Sebastian the crab from The Little Mermaid also makes an appearance.

That’s all for this post, but there are still more Easter Eggs to find on the main board of THE NIGHT OF THE GRAND OCTOPUS.
